Programs

Holiday Party 016Anchor to Windward is dedicated to developing the full potential of intellectually disabled adults through social and recreational programming that improves quality of life; and by providing life skills training that develops healthy living habits; and by offering in-home support that provides 24/7 service to maintain independent living.  Anchor to Windward is growing, and welcomes new participants!  We offer four program levels:

SOCIAL CLUB

Our Social Club emphasizes and encourages peer socialization.  Recognizing that our members have few opportunities to form lasting friendships and safe, trusting relationships amid the general community, the Social Club provides weekly recreational events including Friday night gatherings, dinners out, mini-golf, movie nights, bowling league, and other socially oriented programming designed to help participants develop appropriate friendships among a community of peers and to meet their social needs.

LIFE SKILLS WORKSHOPS & SPEAKER SERIES

Developed for adults who live with family or in group homes, the Life Skills Workshops and Speaker Series offers peer socialization as well as continued growth and exploration of ones own skill set through a variety of mini-courses, group projects, discussion groups and role modeling.  Workshops develop math skills, computer skills, food preparation, and healthy lifestyle topics, while a lively speaker series explores general topics of interest presented by local community experts.  Group discussions and group activities foster improved social interaction and communication skills.

IN-HOME ADL SKILLS BY CONTRACT

This program offers intensive one-on-one training to adults who live with family or in group homes to assist in the transition to independent living.  Individualized contracts are developed to craft a customized program to train and reinforce adult daily living (ADL) skills such as laundry, cooking, food shopping, personal hygiene, banking, budgeting, and vocational support.  Ongoing assistance is available to provide continuous support once the individual successfully transitions to independent living in a residence of his or her own.
